Some of my best ideas have come from the original plan falling apart.
Anyone who’s followed my work knows I’ve always been obsessed with materials. Python, distressed leather, suede, pony hair, tweed. I’ve always believed the material is just as important as the silhouette.
For the 004, I wanted to take that one step further. Instead of finding the right material for the shoe, we developed one specifically for it.
After months of sampling yarns, refining textures, adjusting weight, and dialing in colors, we created the first Geiger Knit, a lightweight knit inspired by the texture and depth of classic tweed, developed specifically for the 004.
Creating something new comes with challenges. Because this is the first production of Geiger Knit, only a limited quantity could be made while we refined the process. I could have waited another six months to produce more pairs, but I’d rather introduce the material now and continue building on it over time.
Sometimes the original plan has to fall apart to make room for something better. Not because the first idea was bad, but because once you stop trying to save the original plan, you give yourself the freedom to build something better. Sometimes, the story you never planned to tell becomes the one worth telling.
The "Multi Geiger Knit" 004 drops Friday, August 21st at 12PM EST.
